Federal prosecutors have charged 56-year-old transgender man named Elizabeth West from Oregon for making interstate threats. The charges stem from a concerning post on Facebook within a “Trans Woman Support Group” on September 26, 2023. This post hinted at frustration and a contemplation of violence, expressing a desire to go out in a “blaze of glory.” The FBI got involved, leading to subsequent developments that revealed a more intricate and concerning story.
The Facebook post on September 26, 2023, marked a starting point where West stated, “I’ve been preparing for this moment for a long time, at least then I’ll be remembered. I have no family, no friends…”
“Well, I wish I had better news to tell but what I’m writing to you right now is the fact that I’m at the end of my rope I’m probably gonna get fired from his job…I’m too old to keep looking for jobs and I’ve had it up to here being bullied by trans phobic a**holes I am left with no alternative. I’ll probably have to go out in a blaze of glory. I’ve been preparing for this moment a long time at least then I’ll be remember I have no family no friends,” the post said.
The FBI discovered violent language in West’s social media activity. On December 7, 2023, West posted messages of concern, participating in threatening conversations. The investigation took a significant step on January 9, 2024, when federal agents executed a search warrant at West’s residence, uncovering 27 guns and tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition.
“On December 5, 2023, West uploaded a picture depicting a shotgun, an assault rifle, two handguns and an AK-47 with a white and green camouflaged body. The comment on the picture states ‘don’t forget white women,'” as mentioned in the complaint.
On December 7, 2023, West posted multiple posts and engaged in conversations with individuals she referred to as Jewish. West posted: “I never leave my house unarmed; I carry a Glock in my purse and a shotgun in my car.” West later engaged in a threatening conversation with an unknown person who she referred to as Jewish, as depicted in the affidavit.
From December 25 through December 28, 2023, West posted images with comments on his X page, engaging in violent rhetoric. It appears West changed around the first letters of the comments to avoid having the content removed from X.

Amidst the unfolding developments, West’s history adds a layer of complexity to the case. With a past arrest in 1993 for allegedly placing a shotgun in his father’s mouth, questions arise about the interplay of mental health, transgender identity, and past offenses.
Despite numerous attempts by FBI agents to contact West during months of monitoring social media, calls went unanswered. In early January, West finally spoke with agents, confirming ownership of the X account and expressing dislike for Jews, African Americans, and immigrants.
Throughout the previous months, the FBI closely observed West’s online activities, particularly discussions on racial topics. The crucial moment occurred on January 9 when, prompted by information about a recent gun purchase, federal agents executed a search warrant, leading to West’s arrest.
