James Spencer III, a 22-year-old Texas man, faces murder charges for allegedly posing as a minor to lure and fatally shoot registered sex offender Sean Connery Showers, 37, in May 2023. Authorities claim Spencer confessed to the killing and revealed his intent to rob and harm sex offenders, indicating knowledge of tracking them using a phone app. Showers had served 30 months in federal prison for child porn possession in 2009 and was jailed again for two years in 2019 for failing to register as a sex offender
According to bail documents, Spencer told his girlfriend that ‘he wanted to rob and harm those type of men because they would do bad things to little children and other people and he knew how to track them by an app on the phone’
Spencer’s bail was set at $250,000 for his upcoming court appearance on Monday, but he remained behind bars after failing to post bond
